These images are from a shoot I styled last weekend with Photographer Jason Obrotka. I wanted to push the boundaries a little bit, using strong lines in the jewelry and lingerie to define strength and power. Although I wanted the look to be really feminine, I wanted to stay away from the typical soft lace and frills of much of the lingerie that has typically been on the market. As of recently, lingerie designers have taken a turn to exhibit more of an edge to their designs, incorporating straps, metal rings and hardware, combinations of leather, lace, and mesh, and more masculine closures such as exposed hooks and eyes, zippers, and snaps. Although the lingerie market has been headed in this direction for quite some time, especially in Europe, I think the mainstream appeal has been expedited by the popularity of the “50 Shades of Grey” novels.
I selected designers that would enhance this aesthetic, pulling a corset and neck corset from D.Webb, stockings from Agent Provocateur, and big statement jewelry from Tavia Sanza. I even included one of my designs, a black satin garter belt that corsets up the back with satin ribbon. Our model, Solveiga Mykolaityte, was absolutely fantastic. The end result equals mission accomplished…………strong, sexy, fierce…………beauty defined.
